Breathing techniques?

In a peer critique of one of my auditions, I was told that I have a tendency to put unnatural pauses in my reads. I don't disagree with that analysis, but when reading a script, I can only go so long before running out of breath! If there aren't sufficient commas in a sentence, by the end of it, I'm running out of air.

Anyone else have this issue, and if so, are there breathing techniques you can employ to help you? Is it okay to read a sentence, take as much time as you need to rest, then read the next sentence....then, just cut out the pauses in post-production and piece the sentences together?

(I did have Covid a year ago, and while thankfully it was a very, very mild case, I do hope that it didn't mess something up in my lung capacity. I need to get back on track with my running. Cardio certainly can't hurt! 😒)
